The first birthday
The first birthday of your little one is special. They are no longer babies, but also not quite toddlers. They explore the world and look at it with big eyes. Celebrating this milestone with a Cake Smash Session is a fantastic way to remember it. For a lot of babies the first birthday cake is the first cake they ever try. That’s why capturing their little faces when they taste it is priceless.
I provide a custom experience for your family that includes family and child portraits as well a cake smash and bath splash session. We will chat about your session on the phone a while before the session so I can understand your vision or help you decide what might be the right theme for you. All sessions are held in my studio in Maida Vale/ Kilburn, West London

To take the stress of providing (and cleaning) a sweet outfit for your little one off you, you are welcome to use a sweet outfit from my studio wardrobe.
Although Cake Smashes are most popular with first birthdays, there is no reason not to celebrate their second or third birthday in a similar way. Even for older children we will always find a fun and age appropriate way to make this milestone special!

Good to know
The Session
The session consists of two parts: First we take some family portraits and some portraits of the birthday child on their own, all in front of a neutral background. This will include portrait of the whole family (maybe a sibling wants to join us?) as well as of each parent with the baby.
Then we move to the chosen decoration, introduce the cake and see how your little one reacts. Some children get a taste for the cake and the mess straight away and really go for it. Others are initially confused and unsure. Some are careful and try not to touch the cake while others grab it and enjoy the texture. Every child is different and that is a wonderful thing to celebrate!
To clean your baby after the messy bit, we continue with a little bath splash: a bubble bath with real bubbles, of course. Most babies love this and it is a beautiful end to the session (and you get to take a clean child home).
The Birthday Cake
Every cake is custom-made by a local cake baker. We will match it to your preferred colour scheme and will try to accommodate your wishes. For a small surcharge I can even supply giant cupcakes or cakes with elaborate icing. Unfortunately, I am not able to offer cakes for special dietary requirements, in particular if your child has any known allergies. Please let me know if this is the case and we will find a solution.
All the cakes do no not only look pretty but also taste delicious! Of course, we don’t waste the cake. In most cases your child will only ‘smash’ a small area of it. So I encourage you to take what is left home with you and enjoy it with your whole family.
How much is a Cake Smash Session and what is included?
Every family has their own ideas and requests when it comes to their little one’s special birthday. Therefore my cake smash sessions are customised exactly to your needs and wishes.
The session fee for the Cake Smash Session is ~£100 ~ which includes
- the photo session in my studio in NW6, which lasts around one hour and consists of sweet portraits of the birthday child and their family (max. one sibling), the cake smash and finally a bath splash in a little tub
- a pre-session consultation over the phone so I know exactly what you are looking for. This allows me to tailor your session exactly to your taste and needs. Additionally, we can address any questions or worries regarding your photo session you might have
- a pretty fresh cake from a local cake maker, for you to take home and enjoy after the session
- use of a large choice of cake smash outfits, decoration and props
- a viewing session to choose your favourite images
- hand-editing of your selected images in my style to the highest standard
- NO images are included with your session fee
Saturday sessions incur a surcharge of £30.
Once you have seen your images in your viewing session (about 2 weeks after your session), you can choose which package of images would be the best for your family. From a few images only to all the images including a luxury album, the choice is yours.

Keeping Earth healthy and reducing the negative impact we have on her, is very important to me. I therefore try to run my business carbon neutral and avoid unnecessary plastic and car journeys. All my decoration items and props are reused as much as possible and your prints and wall art are sourced from environmentally conscious suppliers. In addition, I will plant trees in your child’s name for any purchased silver or gold collection to offset the carbon footprint. To date I have planted more than 2000 trees, a proper little forest!
