Cake smash sessions in West London
Do you have a soon to be one-year old and are looking for a cake smash session in West London?
Over the last few months I was lucky enough to welcome quite a few one-year-olds to my studio to celebrate this mile stone birthday. For a lot of them this is the first time they taste cake. Their expressions when they take the first bite (or rather handful) are too adorable: from confused and unsure to happy and curious. No child reacts like another. And that is what I love about these cake smash sessions.
At the end of this post I will be sharing some beautiful images of a photographer in Minneapolis, USA, who is introducing her Holiday Mini Sessions. It’s time to plan those sessions soon!
Everything as you imagine it
When we are planning a cake smash session for your little one, we will go through your ideas and wishes for every aspect of the session. My backdrops are ‘real’, so we can include and change anything you like. Balloons, bunting, flowers and garlands – you name it, I will supply it. You might have a colour scheme in mind or you might have seen an image somewhere on the internet. Then I am happy to provide a backdrop as similar to what you want as possible. But if you would like me to make suggestions – that is just as well.
Yummy, cake!
My cakes come from a local cake baker and are custom made. That means that they don’t only look good and fit perfectly to your chosen decoration, but they also taste great! Truth be told, the little ones only ever taste and/or destroy a small part of the cake. The rest is perfectly good to take home and enjoy.
Portraits with a clean face first
As adorable as those cake smeared faces are, you might want a nice portrait of your little one without cream or jam around their mouth. We start the session by taking some portraits without their cake. You are welcome to bring their party outfit for this.
The family is part of it
The cake smash in West London might be all about the birthday child but the family is welcome to be included in some family portraits as well! From parents to siblings and grandparents, everyone can join in.
Let them have cake
Then we introduce the cake. In most cases the little ones need a few moments to understand that they are allowed to actually use their hands to feel and smash the cake. Actually, they only a while after this they start to understand that they are even allowed to eat it. To help them understand, mum often needs to show them with a spoon, that the cake is food! But once they got it, there is often no holding back anymore.
Cleaning up can be fun
Okay, a cake smash is messy. Often very messy. And while this is usually the parents’ favourite part, the toddlers usually enjoy the cleaning up best: a nice warm bubble bath. And while the little one enjoys the bath, we blow some bubbles. That will put a smile on pretty much every toddler!
What’s included in my cake smash?
To make sure you can have one image of each part (portrait, cake smash and the bath splash) I include three digital high resolution images of your choice in every session. And as with my other portrait sessions I want to make sure you have at least one beautiful print from your photo shoot, so I also include a 10″x8″ fine art print in a presentation mount. Of course, all this is in addition to the decoration and – of course – the cake!

These are darling! And what a way to remember their first birthday!
Thank you. A lot of the children here in London have grandparents abroad. The images are a lovely way to share the celebration with them!
